Discover, Learn and Play with Snowplow Sam!  The Snowplow Sam levels are introductory classes divided into four progressive levels allowing children with no prior skating experience to build confidence while learning the basic skills of skating. These classes are designed to help children five and younger develop the ABCs of movement – Agility, Balance, Coordination and speed. The ABCs are essential for developing fundamental movement skills and physical literacy. All classes will be taught in a safe and positive environment, incorporating fun and games making class time an enjoyable experience for all.

Includes a weekly 30-minute instructional class and public skating session. No skating experience is necessary. Tots must be comfortable leave parent/caregiver during class time.

Class Structure
  • 30 minute instructional class

Little Stars & Big Pals (Class: Tuesday 1:30 p.m.) 
Tots: 3 - 5 years of age + an adult pal! 
Learn to Skate USA Skill levels: Snowplow Sam 1, 2, 3, 4 & Tot Basic 1

Offered to tots and a parent or guardian who want to learn the basics of skating together in a fun atmosphere. Includes a weekly 30-minute instructional class and public skating session. No skating experience is necessary for tots; adults should have basic skating ability.

Please Note: Classes have a limited number of spaces and tend to fill-up prior to the first day of classes. Please register early to ensure a spot for your skater(s).

Make-Up Classes 
Students are limited to one make-up class per series, which must be completed before the end of the registered session. 

Refunds 
Refunds will be considered on a case-by-case basis. If a refund is permitted, it will be pro-rated from the request date and must be approved by the Skating Director. Refunds after 4 weeks of class will not be permitted.

Click on "Register/Log-In"  Once you have created or logged into your account - search on activities to find the Skating School Schedule of Classes.

ON-LINE REGISTRATION IS NOT AVAILABLE FOR CLASSES 72 HOURS PRIOR TO THE START OF THE SESSION. 

Or you may contact the customer service desk by calling: 412.397.4454. If they are not with another customer, they will be able to take your call and register the skater(s) over the phone with a credit card. Full payment is due at time of registration. You may also register in person by going to the main desk at the Island Sports Center. 

*Learn to Skate USA Membership
Upon completion of a skater's Snowplow Sam 2 or Basic 2 skill test, skaters will receive a complementary ($18 value) membership to Learn to Skate USA for the 2017-18 season (July 1, 2017 - June 30, 2018)  The individual skater will be registered as a member of the RMU Island Sports Center Skating Academy.
